York Digital Library Digitisation Funding

We’re currently in the very fortunate position of having some funding available for digitisation projects here at the University of York. We’ve already funded some projects, mainly on image digitisation but have decided to try and make a chunk of the money available for people to bid for projects. The motivation for this is to try and get a good range of subjects covered by a number of small projects pushing different kinds of content into the Digital Library. The bids will be judged by our Steering Group against a set of of ‘digital library principles’ which I’ve been working on recently. These are:

  • Access
  • Education
  • Multidisciplinarity
  • Reputation and Uniqueness
  • Preservation

It will be interesting to see how successful this is for reviewing projects, as I’d like to use the same approach further to help us prioritise projects when funding and time are in short supply.
