Welcome to the SAFIR blog

The SAFIR (Sound Archives Film Images Repository) project is the first phase of a bigger project at the University of York to create a Digital Library. SAFIR is funded by the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) under their JISC Digital Repositories and Preservation Programme, as one of the start-up and enhancement projects.

SAFIR will set up an open access digital repository at the University of York for resources in a variety of formats, including sound, archives, film and images, to complement both the University’s research publications in the White Rose Research Online repository and the digital teaching materials in the University’s Yorkshare VLE.

Outputs of the project will include a working repository with a pilot selection of content from the history of art image collections in the second quarter of 2008. A user requirements specification, metadata profiles and a range of policies will also be produced.

This blog will be updated regularly with project progress.
